Episode 9. La Cour des Miracles
In the 17th Century no law abiding Parisian would venture into the dangerous and infamous neighbourhood full of thieves and criminals known as the 'Cours des Miracles' or courtyard of miracles as made famous by Victor Hugo in his hefty tome ‘Notre Dame de Paris.' This nickname came about because after begging all day the so called, sick, lame or crippled would return here, and each nigh, as if by miracle, they blind could suddenly see, the deaf hear and the lame regain the use of their limbs. Come with me then as we go looking for any remnants of this darkly colourful part of Paris' past.
